2008 Joint Annual Convention

The 2008 joint annual convention of the CT-MRI Society of the Philippines   (CT-MRISP) and Ultrasound Society of the Philippines (USP) was held on October 9 to 11 at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila. The theme of the convention was “Expanding and Refining our Vision”. Distinguished foreign and local speakers were invited to share their respective fields of specialization.

On the first day of the joint annual convention, which was the CT-MRI Society of the Philippines annual convention, the president of the CT-MRISP Dr. Primo F. Laforeza delivered the welcome address followed by Dr. Ma. Cartrini O. Cruz, the convention chairman, who gave the opening remarks. Dr. Irma D. David-Kintanar, the scientific committee chair, introduces the course to the participants.

The series of lectures started with updates in Abdominal Imaging by Dr. Ana Maria M. Saulog. Her lecture was followed by Dr. Rakesh K. Mathur, a radiologist from New Delhi, who gave interesting lectures regarding pancreatic tumors and the different imaging patterns of small bowel diseases.

Dr. Roy P. Vizcarra and Dr. Raymund Augustus O. Conlu’s lectures on Virtual Bronshoscopy and Head and Neck Tumors utilizing CT-PET respectively, provided the participants an interesting overview of the advanced capabilities of the multidetector CT scan and PET-CT in diagnosing particular diseases.

Important points in emergency cardiovascular Chest CT were tackled by Dr. Manuel C. Mejia, Jr., Dr. Gil M. Maglalang, Jr. and Annie A. Rosario gave detailed and in-depth head and neck lectures (CT of Temporal bone and Paranasal sinuses) but at the same time were made easy to understand. An interesting lecture regarding pediatric imaging was delivered by Dr. Claro B. Dr. Hong Sik Buyn, Director of Interventional Neuroradiology Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea discussed the importance and applications of CT and MR Angiography in Intracranial Atherosclerosis.
